The Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden of the Canary Islands and the University of Granada Join DiSSCo-ES

The scientific collections of the Viera y Clavijo Canarian Botanical Garden and the scientific collections of the University of Granada have officially become part of the DiSSCo National Node in Spain, expanding the total number of member institutions to 23.

The Viera y Clavijo Canarian Botanical Garden, affiliated with CSIC and part of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, is dedicated to the conservation and management of terrestrial Canary Flora. Its mission includes research, environmental education (including outreach), and the maintenance and exhibition of living collections of terrestrial plants, particularly endemics from the Canary Islands and Macaronesia. Additionally, the garden focuses on areas of the planet that share floristic connections with the Canary Islands.

In pursuit of its mission, the “Viera y Clavijo” Botanical Garden generates and manages multidisciplinary knowledge applied to the conservation and management of terrestrial flora and the territory of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands. It operates within the competencies of the Council of the Cabildo to which it belongs and regularly publishes the journal Botánica Macaronésica, providing updates on the flora of the Macaronesian archipelagos to a specialized audience.
